The area’s industrial heritage was celebrated at an exhibition which took place at Sutton Library on Saturday.

People who had worked side by side with each other in the factories got the opportunity to see each other for the first time in years and they were able to share their memories.

The event, which mainly explored hosiery factories in the area, was organised by Sutton Library and the Sutton Heritage Society.

“One gentleman gave us an account of his life working at the Pretty Polly factory,” said library services advisor Marg Thorne.

The photographs, which are now on display at the library, depict people working in the factories and social activities organised for the workers as well as the buildings themselves. Someone even brought along an old pay slip.

Describing the event, Marg added: “It was tremendous, a really good day.”
