POLICE are trying to locate a passer-by who assisted a woman shortly before she was assaulted in Mansfield in the early hours of Saturday (14th July).

The 37-year-old woman was attacked in Quaker Way, near to the viaduct, between 12am and 1am.

Before the assault, she spoke to a man near to St Peter’s Retail Park in Station Street, Mansfield, who offered her assistance and directed her to the bus station and walked with her part of the way.

She then went on to be assaulted after he left.

Police would like to speak to the passer-by as he could have vital information relevant to their investigation.

He is white, 5ft 5ins, of slim build, with blond hair and was wearing a long-sleeved black top.

The woman, who suffered some bruising during the assault, is being comforted by specially-trained police officers.

A cordon is in place in Quaker Way while police carry out their enquiries.
