A FIRE investigation is underway after two men died in a blaze at a house in Huthwaite - with police saying the cause is not thought to be suspicious.
Firefighters from Ashfield and Mansfield were called out to a fire at a terraced house on Sutton Road at around 8.15am on Saturday after the alarm was raised by a neighbour.
When crews arrived at the scene one casualty had been recovered. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus then entered the property and recovered the other casualty.
The fire is thought to have started in the downstairs of the property and firefighters had to use two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.
Police were also called and officers had to close Sutton Road for a time while emergency services attended the incident.
A fire investigation is now taking place at the house to establish the cause of the blaze, but a police spokesman said on Saturday afternoon: “At this stage, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. A police cordon remains in place at the property while the cause of the fire is investigated.”
