THE man who ran King’s Mill Hospital has left his post just eight months after being given the top job - despite ambitious plans for its future.
Martin Wakeley joined the trust in October last year with big plans for King’s Mill - hoping to transform into a facility with ‘world class’ healthcare.
But he left the trust on 31st May and was replaced by ex-consultant surgeon Mark Goldman last Thursday.
A trust spokesman was unable to comment on the circumstances leading to Mr Wakeley’s departure.
But chairman Tracy Doucet said she hoped the trust would still go on to be known as the best provider of high quality care in the East Midlands.
She said: “With these ambitions in mind and in order to build on some of our successes over the last 12 months the trust board has appointed Dr Mark Goldman as Interim Chief Executive.”
Mr Goldman was medical director and subsequently chief executive of Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust until 2010.
Ms Doucet said the trust would begin recruiting for a permanent chief executive over the coming weeks.
