Tributes to '˜beautiful' Mansfield teen found dead at 17

Saffron was described as "beautiful" and "bright", with the power to "light up any room" with her "massive personality".

The body of the girl, named locally as Saffron Pickering, was discovered at a house on Foston Close on Wednesday, June 21.

Danny Day, Saffron’s heartbroken boyfriend, has led tributes to her.

Calling her his “angel”, he said: “I will always love you, with all my heart and soul.

“You will never leave my side. Rest in peace, my beautiful girl.”

Officers originally launched a murder inquiry after Saffron’s body was discovered and a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

However, police said later that day her death was “no longer being treated as suspicious” and the man was released.

A police spokesman said: “The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident continues.

“Officers were called on Wednesday, June 21, at 1.45am, in relation to the concern for a girl’s safety.

“When they arrived they discovered the body of a 17-year-old girl at a house in Foston Close, Mansfield.

“Officers are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident and our thoughts remain with the family and close friends of the girl.”

Nikita Bancroft, Saffron’s cousin, said: “Saffron was a very beautiful, young girl with a bright future ahead of her, and now that has been taken away.

“I do hope she’s in a safe place now.

“I can’t believe that she is gone, just like that. Seventeen is no age to die .

“Rest in peace sweetheart, until we meet again.”

And friend Corey Gornall said: “I can’t believe what has happened. “Saff was a best mate to me. I will never forget her.”
