Nottinghamshire Police have named the cyclist killed in a crash on the A1 on Sunday as Andrew Ridsdale, from Mirfield in West Yorkshire.

Mr Ridsdale (43) died after a heavy goods vehicle collided with his bicycle just before 8.55am on Sunday as he took part in an organised time trial event.

The collision occurred on the A1 southbound carriageway close to the end of the A634 Spital Road slip road, about one mile south of Blyth services.

The incident is being investigated by Nottinghamshire’s Crash Investigation Unit. No arrests have been made.

Detectives would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or was driving along that section of the A1 between 8.50am and 9am on Sunday.

They would particularly like to hear from a female motorist who stopped immediately after the collision and told people at Flo’s Café, in a nearby lay-by, that she had witnessed the crash.
