NOTTINGHAMSHIRE County Council has been invited to resubmit a bid for £5m of Government funding to help boost environmentally-friendly travel in the north of the county.
There is a total of £560m of funding available which local authorities can bid for to support economic growth whilst cutting carbon from transport.
The County Council’s bid would see schemes put in place in Worksop, Mansfield, Newark and Retford focusing on targeting lifestyle changes and encouraging more environmentally-friendly ways of commuting. One idea would see the installation of charging points for electric vehicles.
The government has approved to fund or part-fund 37 LSTF bids. 19 have been rejected and the County Council’s bid is one of 13 which will be resubmitted in February.
“We have failed to win funding at this stage but have been asked to resubmit next February along with a bunch of other bidders,” said Coun Richard Jackson, portfolio holder for transport and highways.
“We will review the results of the first round and look to enhance our bid for the next cycle.”
