A SERIOUS accident on the M1 near Bolsover in the early hours of Thursday morning led to traffic chaos across the area.
The motorway was closed in both directions for several hours after a lorry travelling southbound was involved in a collision with a number of vehicles before crashing into the central reservation and ending up on the northbound carriageway.
Police say the crash happened at around 1.30am, between Junctions 29a and 29, and five people were taken to hospital - two with serious injuries.
The closure led to a build up of traffic on major routes in the Mansfield and Ashfield areas.
To add to traffic misery for rush-hour commuters, there were delays on the A60 at Church Warsop after a collision involving a car and a lorry.
There were no reports of any serious injuries following the crash, which happened close to the junction with Bishops Walk shortly before 8.20am.
*A WOMAN died when the Mitsubishi people carrier she was driving left the M1 and ploughed into the central reservation barrier on Wednesday evening.
The 46-year-old was travelling southbound when the accident happened at Junction 29 at around 6.50pm.
