POLICE cordoned off a busy Mansfield road at rush hour today, Wednesday 1st May, after it was feared a man was threatening to jump from a bridge.
The bridge across St Peter’s Way, known locally as ‘Banana Bridge’, was closed off by police, along with the busy road beneath it, at about 5pm.
It came after reports that a man had climbed over the handrail of the bridge.
Traffic was diverted while a police officer appeared to approach the man and speak with him.
Shortly before 5.30pm, the man, dressed in a white jumper, jeans and trainers, then climbed back over the railing and made his way back to towards the Pelham Street end of the bridge where it was reported that police detained him.
The road and bridge were re-opened shortly afterwards.
