YOUNG people at Tibshelf Community School have collected more than 70 shoe boxes for soldiers who won’t get to spend Christmas at home.

Year 10 students Kieran Kourdache, Josie Morris, Eden Haynes, Neely Middleton and James Wilkinson were the school’s ‘shoe box ambassadors’ and the boxes will be sent to troops in Afghanistan.

The school decided to undertake the project because former Tibshelf student Aydn Walster began his first tour of duty in the war-torn country in September.

Mrs Lee said: “I was worried when I learned Aydn was being sent to Afghanistan and felt compelled to help. Before he left, he asked if I would support the Shoebox Appeal.”
