Nottinghamshire County Council is advising residents to beware of missing drain covers.
More than 90 covers have been removed across the county - including 30 from the Mansfield district, 20 in Ashfield and 18 in Newark & Sherwood - putting pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists at risk, and costing around £300 to replace.
Stuart Favill, Principal Cyclical Works Manager, said: “Removing the covers from road drains is a dangerous act, which puts the safety of all road users at risk and could even cost someone’s life.”
“I urge anyone who sees or hears anything about this to contact the police as soon as possible.”
l Anyone who spots anything suspicious is asked to call the police on 0300 300 9999.
