A group of Mansfield soldiers returned home last week in a bid to encourage people to sign up for the army.

Nine soldiers from The Rifles regiment waited at stands at Regent Street and Beales Shopping Centre as part of a recruitment drive.

Youngsters were encouraged to speak to them to learn about life in the regiment and the wider army.

Captain Gaz Case, who is originally from Mansfield, organised the event.

He said: “It’s great to be back in Mansfield.

“All the soldiers enjoy getting out and about at events like this to speak to people about what we do and who we are, especially when its in our home town.”

The Rifles has five battalions and two reserve battalions and is the largest infantry regiment in the British Army.
