Have your say

May I thank the people who have come forward and given us support in the aftermath of the fire which destroyed our building last Wednesday.

May I thank the people who have come forward and given us support in the aftermath of the fire which destroyed our building last Wednesday.

We were all very traumatised by how quickly our special setting disappeared and we wish to give special thanks to the leaders of the Scouts and Girl Guides who readily came forward with temporary use of their quarters, the Community Services, Ashfield District Council who were on site and have been there for us, the Green Watch Fire team and the other teams who later joined them for the efficient way in which they controlled the blaze which saved the outside play equipment.

Also to our insurance team who are acting so quickly to get us back into our own building again and the media who have helped spread the word so that we have received donations from residents to help replace all the equipment which was lost, to say nothing of the local residents who have given so kindly. I have left it until last to thank the staff at our pick-up schools, parents and children who have come forward with contributions of toys and cash - some stories so touching that the staff and committee have been drawn to tears. The local councillors who have come forward to help raise money and staff who have tried to retain normality for the children who regarded the playscheme as their own.

Thank you all for your kindness and if I have missed out anyone please do accept our thanks for being there for us when we needed help so urgently. We hope to be in our new building in the not too distant future.

Shirley Wiffen,

Ashfield Play Care Scheme.
