A LEADING Nottinghamshire fostering agency is calling on anyone who thinks they could give a young person a home to attend one of its special events to find out more about foster care.

Team Fostering, which provides care for children and young people across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and the North East, has organised two information events at its newly-opened offices at Mansfield i-centre, Oakham Business Park, Hamilton Way, on 18th April and 16th May.

It hopes the events will attract anyone who has considered fostering but has been unsure how to go about it or what it entails.

At each event, staff from the agency will give a brief presentation about Team Fostering and the support and services it offers foster carers, then visitors will be able to meet Team’s social workers and existing carers to find out more.

Team Fostering assistant director, Paul Dempsey, said: “We are looking for people with a mature outlook, aged over 21 who have a spare room and who can provide a child or young person with the safe, nurturing environment they need to blossom and fulfil their potential. We urge anyone who thinks they fit the bill to come along and meet us.

“We welcome interest from all parts of the community and people from a range of diverse backgrounds, including ethnic minority families, same sex couples, or single carers”

Team Fostering has worked alongside local authorities to find suitable foster care placements for young people for the past 11 years.

As well as extensive training for its foster carers, it provides a comprehensive, 24-hour, ’out of hours‘ support service, minimum fortnightly social work visits, educational support, activities in school holidays and an annual holiday for carers and young people.

A not-for-profit organisation, it re-invests surplus funds back into the business to provide extra support for children and young people, equip foster carers with extra services and competitive rates of pay and ensure local authorities receive value for money services.

The informal information events, which will start at 6pm and continue until 8pm, are among a programme of events organised by Team Fostering in Nottinghamshire.
