Sutton will 'go to war' on academy

SUTTON folk say they are prepared to 'go to war' over plans to build a £25m academy on part of Sutton Lawn.

Nottinghamshire County Council has earmarked land at the Garden Lane end of the Lawn as the potential new home for an academy to replace Sutton Centre Communty College.

But at a public meeting organised by the Lawnside Community Association on Wednesday, residents issued the rallying call –– saying they were concerned the scheme would lead to a loss of green space for children to play on and could lead to parking and flooding problems.

Peel Street householder Rebecca Searson said many people wanted the new school to be built, but believed the Lawn was not the place for it.

"As residents it is obviously going to have a personal effect on us but as a town and a community, the effect is going to be massive if we lose that Lawn," she said.
