Sutton quarry plans given go-ahead

Have your say

CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a silica sand quarry on the edge of Sutton have been approved by councillors.

Mansfield Sand, which currently owns a quarry at Ratcher Hill in Rainworth near, submitted plans to move its operation to Two Oaks Farm on Derby Road because its supply of sand is due to run out.

But despite opposition from nearby councillors and residents - who raised concerns about increased traffic and the effect on wildlife - the proposal was granted permission by the county council’s planning committee today.
