Sutton man animal ban after cats left to die

A SUTTON man has been banned from keeping pets for two years after leaving two kittens to die in his home.

The incident occurred when Stephen St John (21), of Alfred Street, found himself locked out of a flat he had been living at on Layton Burroughs in Mansfield in October last year.

St John tried to contact his housing officer to get back into his flat where the two kittens and a ginger white cat had been left with food and drink.

He also rang the Cats Protection charity for advice but could still not get into the flat so decided to move elsewhere thinking it was going to be repossessed.

In mitigation, Chris Lacey said St John had not meant any harm towards the cats and it had not been a callous act.

He was also given a four- month community order at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.
