Farnsfield residents have foiled plans for a new renewable energy plant, after a campaign against the potential smell.

Hundreds of ‘Stop the Stink’ campaigners were against the environmentally-friendly Anaerobic Digester that was proposed for a site on Baulker Lane by nearby farmers, Freshgro Ltd.

The plant – which would generate energy through the breaking down of food and plant waste – was planned to be around 700 metres away from Wheelgate Park theme park.

Many residents sparked the protest over fears the smell would impact on tourism in the area.

More than 800 objections were received by the county council during the consultation period, and they confirmed the application was withdrawn.
