A campsite in Forest Town has applied for planning permission to build 20 static homes to cope with increasing levels of demand.

Tall Trees Park Home on Old Mill Lane currently has 37 pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes.

But following inquiries from holidaymakers wanting more luxury, park manager Andrew James, is now hoping they will be given the go-ahead to build.

In a planning statement prepared on behalf of Mr James, it reads: “Tall Trees is experiencing a huge demand touring caravan, tent and motorhome pitches particularly in this economic climate and eco-friendly times.

“Many families are opting for less complicated, outdoor, healthy and cheaper holidays with their children and extended families.

“Mr James has been asked on a number of occasions if he intends to provide static caravans.

“Due to the huge popularity of the site it is envisaged that they will be used for 12 moths of the year.

“Demand is particularly high around the Easter, Christmas and New year breaks, and during all of the school holidays.”

The proposal is for a mix of two and three-bedroom units, typically around 11.6 metres long and 3.65 metres
wide.

The plans are earmarked for land to the north east of the current pitches, next to the well-established fishing lake.

The fresh plans come not long after significant investment was ploughed into the site to build a high-quality timber-board clad shower, WC and laundry facility, which the owner says is proving popular among guests.

The planning application will be put before Mansfield District Council’s planning committee in the coming months.

If given he go-ahead, the extension will almost double the size of the camping area.
