Society’s speaker

THE Pinxton and South Normanton History Society welcomed guest speaker Rev Leslie Harris to The Postmill Centre on Monday.

The Rev Harris spoke about the Steam Ships of the BI Line (British India) especially the SS Uganda which travelled the Mombassa route.

He also showed a DVD of other ships belonging to the company.

The Rev Harris, who is curate of St Helen’s Church in Pinxton, went to Mombassa in Kenya with his parents at the age of nine.

He spent 47 years in the African country, 24 as school chaplain and six as a teacher.

A spokeswoman from the group said: “The feedback from all who attended was that they found it all very interesting.”
