Hundreds of people took advantage of the good weather to join in the fun at Sunday’s Glapwell Carnival.
Held at the village’s cricket ground, the event saw floats, a fancy dress parade, a dog show, quad bikes, a mini steam train, inflatables, children’s rides and a falconry display.
The celebrity guest was Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe in ITV soap Emmerdale.
The organising group, the Glapwell Community Development Group (GCDG), hope to make a £200 to £300 donation to the Royal British Legion from money raised by the event.
“Matthew was excellent and stayed for three or four hours, walking around all the stalls and floats, mixing with everyone and posing for photographs,” said GCDG chairman Rachel Hibbert.
“The organisers of the carnival in years gone by (the carnival has been resurrected after ceasing in the 1980s) say he was the best celebrity guest they had ever had.”
“It was a day when families, friends and long lost neighbours could get together and kids could enjoy being in the open and have a thoroughly wonderful time.
“On behalf of the organisers, I would like to thank everyone who supported the carnival and a massive thanks to all the wonderful volunteers for their hard work and dedication.
“We look forward to another successful day next year.”
