RESIDENTS are being warned to be prepared for widespread ice across Nottinghamshire tonight (Saturday 19th January) and into tomorrow morning.
The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for ice as temperatures drop to below freezing.
Motorists are being warned that where there is existing snow cover, this is likely to freeze and create hazardous driving conditions.
Nottinghamshire Police has advised drivers to drive slowly, avoid sharp braking and acceleration and use the highest gear possible to avoid wheel spin, while maintaining a steady speed and allowing extra space to stop - it can take ten times longer to stop in icy conditions than on a dry road.
If your vehicle suddenly skids, ease off the accelerator, but do not brake suddenly.
Nottinghamshire County Council gritters are out salting A and B roads and major bus routes, but untreated side roads will be slippery and care should be taken while driving on them.
Pavements are also icy, so pedestrians should beware.
Keep sending your snow pics and snow stories to the Chad and you might see yours in next week’s paper or on the website. Email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
