Slimmers support and activity fun for Spectrum WASP autism group

Rainworth-based Spectrum WASP has been boosted with help from slimmers from across the area.

Members of Slimming World groups from Blidworth and St Lawrence’s in Mansfield supported the group by collecting clothes that no longer fitted them and recycling them into cash.

The bags of clothing weighed 620kg raising a total of £310 in one collection.

“Caroline and her members have also been doing a cake/coffee morning, collecting 5ps, selling raffle tickets and held a sponsored slim with her groups over six weeks,” said Sue Edwards co-ordinator of Spectrum WASP who support families and their children on the autistic spectrum.

“All the money raised has helped support our two, summer stays and activities at The Mill Adventure Base in the new ‘pods’,” added Sue. “This will be just wonderful for our teens and their families to enjoy a break away in amazing surroundings.

“We are also sharing the funds with the Corn Water Group Charity who support the elderly.”

The Spectrum WASP group has been given the opportunity to visit the Walesby Forest Outdoor Activity Centre with 60 children/parents taking part.

“It was the most amazing two night stay in the most wonderful back to nature environment,” explained Sue. “It was a full packed programme of fun outdoor activities, with a great team looking after us at Walesby.

“None of this could have been possible without the support of many including The Mansfield Hospital Theatre Troupe and Sainsbury’s Mansfield.

“Our children had a wonderful time with some taking very ‘BIG’ steps while away.”
