HOUSEHOLDERS will be able to buy Christmas trees grown in Ashfield this festive season.
Nottinghamshire County Council is selling Nordman fir trees which have been grown in Skegby and looked after by people working with the council’s horticulture and work training service.
The trees went on sale on Monday and are available at the Farm Shop at Brooke Farm on Main Street in Linby.
UK-grown spruces will also be available at the farm, which is run by the county council.
Coun Kevin Rostance, who is chairman of the council’s adult social care and health committee, said: “Unlike many other suppliers, which source their trees from abroad, Brooke Farm’s Christmas trees are either locally grown or from a UK site which make them a much greener way of celebrating the festive season.”
All proceeds from the sales go back into providing training opportunities for people with disabilities to help them improve their life and social skills.
Trees can be recycled at any of the council’s household recycling centres.
