FurEver Friends was started four years ago and a team of 11 volunteers help to run the shop, which raises funds for a number of animal charities.

Gail Lambert, who runs the shop, said: “It made my day winning the competition. We were well chuffed.”

The theme of the window display was about animals who also deserve a good Christmas.

Ken Robinson, from the Hucknall Tourism and Regeneration group said: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank the judges and all the shops for taking part in the competition.

“We were very pleased with the participation. We had about 25 last year and this year 40 so it’s pleasing.

“Most of them were of a very high standard.”

The judging was carried out on 12th December, with judges Laura Simpson and Alex Smith from Nottinghamshire County Council’s Heritage & Tourism department visiting each participant.

Mr Robinson added: “We had entries from Annesley Road, Baker Street, South Street, Ogle Street, High Street, Watnall Road, and Portland Road.”

Hucknall county councillor Alice Grice said: “Events like the Christmas tree festival and the high standard of entries to the shop window competition show that Hucknall is still a town with a great community spirit.”
