A 15-YEAR-OLD girl from Shirebrook is looking to make waves on the local comedy circuit after performing in Mansfield on Thursday.
Holly Hopkins, known on stage as Lucy Wardrobe, delivered a 15 minute comedy sketch at Mansfield’s Handley Arcade just a year after deciding she wanted to pursue a career as a stand up comedienne.
Her dad Harry Lime is acting as her manager and says his daughter is looking to gain experience at local venues to gain experience and hone her stand up set.
“She has been doing it for about a year and is trying to perfect her act and find her own style and direction,” said Harry.
“She gets her inspiration from family and friends and things that happen, although she is only just 15 she wants to do adult comedy and is a bit old to do children’s routines.
“She decided she wanted to try comedy after watching Stewart Lee’s Comedy Night last year at about the time she was choosing her GCSE options.”
Despite her enthusiasm and emerging talent, Harry says her daughter is being held back because of her age.
“She needs local support in order to progress, she’s very quiet usually and wouldn’t say boo to a goose but when she is on stage she adopts a different persona,” added Harry.
“Her style is suited to longer monologues but at the moment she is mixing it up with shorter jokes and one liners depending on the audience.
“But I’m very proud of her and hope she goes far.”
Lucy Wardrobe will be appearing at Newark Showground on 18th August. To book her call Harry Lime on 07775715879.
