Santa Claus wanted for Rufford Abbey and Sherwood Forest’s Christmas grotto

It might be the summer holidays but staff at Rufford Abbey are already thinking about Christmas!

Managers at the Nottinghamshire County Council-managed country park are appealing for extra help to support Santa Claus this coming festive season.

Santa is set to appear at grottos at both Sherwood Forest and Rufford Abbey at weekends in the run-up to Christmas – but there is a vacancy at Rufford where Santa needs a little – or should that be a big helper!

Lynn Negus, retail manager at Rufford Abbey Country Park, said: “There is clearly only one Father Christmas but as we all know he cannot be in every place at once so we have a vacancy for a jolly, jovial person to help out for a few hours.

“In previous years there has been no shortage of interest from people who want to lend a hand but for some reason we have struggled with our appeal so we are asking if the local media can put the word out to help us.

“I don’t know why we have not been able to fill the position as yet but we are hoping our Christmas wish can be granted!”

Anyone interested in the position will need to be available for around six weekends in the run-up to Christmas. Interviews will take place in early September.

The council says that the only ‘claus’ in the contract is that the chosen candidate must comply with ‘elf and safety’ standards, otherwise they could face the ‘sack!’.
