Samworth Church academy collect regional design award

MANSFIELD’S Samworth Church Academy and Kier Marriott, the company which built the new school, are celebrating after scooping a regional award.

The new £22m academy, on Sherwood Hall Road, opened last summer to replace the old Sherwood Hall school buildings.

Now it has won Best Education Development at the 2011 East Midlands Built in Quality Awards.

The three-storey academy features a curved shape with a central ‘heart space’ which enables maximum light to flood in.

Head Boy Luke Beastall, pictured with fellow student Rachel Pass, said: “As a daily user, to me, it symbolises how far the academy has come in recent years.

“It caters for all students and is a fantastic environment to be schooled in.”

Kier Marriott director Richard Charman says it is a ‘great achievement and just reward’ for the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.
