MANSFIELD soldier Pte Ricky Peabody (22), second right, has been given the royal seal of approval by the Prince of Wales in recognition of his work in war-torn Afghanistan with Pte’s Robert Hogg and Adam Wakefield in Nottingham.

It is the first formal visit by Prince Charles to the 2nd Battalion the Mercian Regiment since they finished a six-month tour in late 2009 ahead of their return to Afghanistan later this year.

During their last deployment, at least two Mercian soldiers were in contact against the enemy almost every day.

Prince Charles was given updates about the unit and learned about the training the battalion is undertaking.
