A former chairman of Mansfield District Council has been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant (DL) to the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.

Heather Henshaw MBE, who lives in Forest Town is one of seven DLs recently named to assist in representing the Queen in the county at civic events.

Mrs Henshaw, who can now proudly include letter ‘DL’ after names, as well as MBE, said: “I’m absolutely honoured, I feel really proud. I never expected anything like this.

“I had to go for an interview but wasn’t allowed to tell anyone!

“I love being in the community and this will be like being involved with the council again!”

Heather served on Mansfield District Council between 2003 and 2011, serving as chairman during that time, and has been an active fundraiser for the NSPCC since 1971.

She is now the district chairman for the charity which helps to raise around £30,000 a year locally.
