A GROUP of ‘motorcycle mad’ friends is hoping to raise £6,000 for charity in a 2,000 mile road adventure.
Neal Smith, son-in-law Ross Kirk and his dad Carl will be part of a six-man team from across the Midlands who will take to their bikes in April.
The team will follow an A road-only route around Britain covering Land’s End to John O’Groats.
Inspired by friends and family who have fought cancer, they hope their journey of a lifetime will help raise cash for cancer support charity Macmillan.
Neal, from Ollerton, and Ross and Carl, from Warsop, will set off on the round trip from Ollerton on 9th April and plan to return to a hero’s welcome on 14th April.
Said Neal (48): “All of us have wanted to do that iconic route and we thought ‘why not do it?’, then we thought ‘and why not do some good while we are at it?’
Neal has planned the trip inspired by his mum Maureen, who lost a battle with breast cancer 16 years ago aged 58.
The six-man team will stop only to refuel, rest and collect donations.
Added Ross (29): “It will be a challenge, I love being on my bike and on a trip like this you are going with the kind of people who have the same interests and sense of humour.”
The other three making up the team are Paul Badcoe and Stuart Liddell, both from Leicestershire, and Phil Dunks, from Grimsby.
The team will be collecting donations in Ollerton town centre on 19th March and at the East Midlands Designer Outlet, Pinxton, on 17th March.
