THREE former Mansfield school friends who all now live in Australia have been reunited more than 50 years later thanks to a letter in a local newspaper.
Trevor Merritt, Keith Blythe and John Emberson all attended the Mansfield Secondary Technical School which used to be next to King’s Mill Hospital on Sutton Road.
They all emigrated to Australia in the 1960s.
About a year ago, Trevor wrote a letter to his local newspaper in Furnissdale, Western Australia, which was noticed by Keith who lives about 30 miles away in Waroona.
The pair have met up a few times and Trevor learned how Keith was in contact with John, who lives near Melbourne about 2,000 miles away.
But John recently came to Western Australia for a holiday with his wife Slyvia and the three were able to meet.
Trevor said: “When this picture was taken it was the first time we had been in each other’s company since we left school in 1955.
“It was brilliant to have a get together at Keith’s home. The food and drink were flowing freely.
“Those who knew me prior to leaving will probably recognise me instantly whereas the other two have aged somewhat!
“The three of us send our best wishes to Chad readers and our former friends and schoolmates.”
Trevor was born and raised in Rainworth but left for Australia in 1965. Keith and John are originally from the Westgate Lane area of Mansfield and emigrated in 1964.
