Residents with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease urged to get flu jab
RESIDENTS suffering from COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) are being advised to get the flu jab today to avoid the risk of serious illness this winter.
Many former miners across the Ashfield district suffer with COPD and are therefore at increased risk of catching the flu bug over the coming months.
“People should not underestimate the dangers of flu,” said Penny Spring, public health consultant at NHS Nottinghamshire County. “It is a highly infectious illness and people with long term conditions such as COPD can become seriously ill and may require hospital treatment if they catch flu.
“For anyone with a long-term condition the jab is free at your GP surgery, and I would strongly advise anyone who has not yet had the jab to make an appointment as soon as possible.”
