A WARSOP footballer has sparked a media frenzy Down Under after he was sent off during a match - for refusing to remove an intimate piercing.

Stags fan Aaron Eccleston saw red for a ‘tackle’ of a different kind while playing for his new Sunday League side in Melbourne at the weekend.

The drama unfolded when the eagle-eyed match official spotted the ‘offending item’ after Aaron - who emigrated last year - was hit in the groin and left reeling in pain.

One opposition player told Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper: “He got hit in the privates and I guess he was just checking to see everything was still OK down there - but then the ump’s spotted it.”

Under local rules in Melbourne, players are required to remove ear and nose piercings - while eyebrow piercings are required to be taped over, but there is no rule for more intimate piercings.
