A concrete worker who admitted dumping rubbish in a field has been fined and ordered to pay costs totalling more than £500.

Lee Matkin (37), of Warsop Lane, Rainworth, admitted fly tipping at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court. He was fined £200 and ordered to pay costs and compensation of £300.

Prosecuting on behalf of Newark and Sherwood District Council, Terry Wilson said that Matkin was seen dumping rubbish from a van in a field off Churchfield Drive, Rainworth, by a man and woman who were walking their dog. The rubbish had come from the home of a woman in Rainworth.

Matkin told the court that the offence was not premeditated. He had somewhere to take the rubbish but had been let down.

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s waste enforcement officer, Ron Dawes, said: “The message is quite simple - don’t dump you’re rubbish illegally and you won’t end up in court.”
