Police cracked down on underage alcohol sales with an undercover test purchase in seven off licences in Sutton this week.

The operation saw a 15-year-old volunteer attempt to buy alcoholic drinks at Ashfield Stores, Best One Off Licence, Bierdronka Off Licence, Cost Cutter, Local Choice, Mini Market Polo and Nazran Food and Wine.

They were selected because they are located in the Sutton Community Alcohol Partnership area.

Police said the volunteer - despite his height and deep voice - was not served in any of the premises.

Police Sergeant Martin Severn said: “It is pleasing to see retailers in the area are behaving as they should.”

The operation was led by Nottinghamshire police and Nottinghamshire County Council Trading Standards officers and was one of the first projects to be delivered as part of the scheme.
