TWO police cars responding to a 999 call were involved in a collision at Mansfield Woodhouse on Thursday evening.

The marked vehicles were heading to a report of a potential burglary when one of the cars went into the other on Sherwood Street at around 8.15pm.

As the police vehicle was struck, it veered into a bungalow in Cross Street, at the junction with Sherwood Street, causing significant damage.

The incident is being investigated by Nottinghamshire Police and has also been voluntarily referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

No one was injured in the property, however a water pipe burst and police are currently working with the homeowner to find alternative accommodation until a structural engineer has assessed the damage.

Two officers were taken to King’s Mill for treatment to minor injuries and have since been discharged.

A third officer, who was in one of the police cars, was also injured.
