Plans for second Aldi in Bulwell

Bulwell residents could be in store for another Aldi supermarket offering up to 40 new jobs in the town if the company goes ahead with plans.

The discount food retailer is unveiling plans for a new food store on Hucknall Road located between Bulwell and Top Valley.

The proposed site on Hucknall Road is currently occupied by the NCV Sales and G&M Motors dealerships, which would relocate to alternative premises in the local area if planning permission is received and existing jobs would be retained.

If plans pay off, this will be the second Aldi store in the town with a third one just up the road in Hucknall.

“Whilst we have an existing store in Bulwell, this store is currently overtrading and we have been aiming to improve our offer in this area of the city for some time,” said a company spokesman. “We believe the site in Hucknall Road is an excellent opportunity to deliver a new food store to serve the local community.”

The proposals seek to transform this site with a multi-million pound development, introducing a contemporary designed food store to serve the local community.

Alongside the retention of the existing jobs, the proposal would deliver up to 40 new full and part time jobs at the Aldi store which would be aimed at local people.

A public exhibition is planned for residents to find out more about the proposal.

The exhibition will take place on Wednesday 11th June between 2pm and 6pm, at the Top Valley Community Centre (adjacent to Tesco).

“Before we submit a planning application to Nottingham City Council we are eager to understand the views of the local community and ensure their comments can be taken into consideration. We look forward to welcoming people to our public exhibition on 11th June, but if residents have any questions in the meantime they should call the project’s freephone information line on 0800 298 7040.”
