PICS: Hundreds turn out to Kirkby Armed Forces Day celebrations

Kirkby residents flocked to pay tribute to the work of servicemen and women during Armed Forces Day.

The town held its event yesterday (Saturday, June 24) at Kirkby Plaza.

An Armed Forces Day service ran from 10am til 12pm, followed by a celebration of dance and music from the 1940s to 2000s until 8pm.

Representatives from the local branch of the Royal British Legion and other community groups were were also present.

To date, Kirkby has only ever hosted a small Royal Armed Forces event- but this year’s celebration was combined with an Ashfield Active event, resulting in a higher turnout.
