A NEW jury is set to be sworn in for the retrial of a man accused of murdering a Skegby pensioner in her own home.
Peter Kenneth Smith (48) is accused of killing 71-year-old Hilda Owen in her home in 2007. He denies the charges.
Yesterday (Wednesday) a jury was sworn in at Nottingham Crown Court and the prosecution’s opening statements were read out.
But the jury was discharged at lunch time after one member said they were unable to sit due to ‘personal reasons’.
This morning, a provisional panel of jurors were chosen and they are set to be sworn in later.
The trial is expected to last between six and eight weeks.
