MANSFIELD and Ashfield’s top cat and prize pooch have been revealed with the announcement of the winners of Chad’s Perfect Pets contest.

Four-year-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel Charlie is the winner of the dog category, while female feline Bracken won the cat category.

Both winners have been given a photo of their prize pet on canvas, produced by photographer Neil Lancashire, and will receive a goody bag courtesy of Mansfield Pet Stores.

Caroline Lunness entered Charlie into the competition because he is ‘the cutest dog on the planet’ - though she would have taken his brother home instead if Charlie had not taken such a liking to her!

At nine months he developed an ulcer in his eye for which he needed a skin graft and he has no immune system, which means he has had pneumonia three times, gets poorly feet and has allergy problems affecting his eyes and skin.

Caroline (31), of Oak Avenue, Mansfield, said: “He is very prone to picking things up but is quite resilient!

“He is my little man. I run my own business and it can be quite stressful, so to go home to a waggy tail is really nice.”

Caroline said she was ‘very excited’ to learn Charlie had won the competition, with the canvas now taking pride of place at her home.

Trina Mant said she was ‘very proud’ that her tabby/tortoiseshell cat Bracken won Perfect Pets.

Trina (43), of Leeming Lane South, has had six-year-old Bracken since she was just seven or eight weeks old.

She also said that the little kitten picked her out when she went to see the litter at Cats Protection at Spion Kop and they are ‘besotted’ with each other.

She said: “She follows me everywhere - we are just inseparable. She’s like my feline guardian angel and soulmate.”

Trina has two other cats, but has a ‘close bond’ with Bracken - and even has a tattoo of her name! She said winning was ‘the cherry on top of the cake’.
