GUEST COLUMN: Partnership work leads to success, by Jon Sankey, Mansfield BID

When you look up the word '˜teamwork', a quick internet search will tell you that it is about combining the actions of members of a group.

In particular, teamwork suggests that the results of those actions will be effective.

A good football team or rugby team might have some brilliant players, but, put them together and sometimes they will not get great results. If they play as a team, they win. Of course, in sport, in business, in life, there are examples of where individuals have shone through. But, more often than not, they are still part of a team. They will still have people working together to help them achieve.

Mansfield BID is made up of a small team of great people who work together to get things done. The recent weekend of activities, including a 1940s-style dance event, and the garden and craft show, demonstrates exactly how teamwork can be a success. Events like these are important because not only do they help to show off more of what Mansfield is about, but they also help to draw people into the town centre itself.

Our small team worked with businesses, and public sector organisations, such as the district council, to pull off a great weekend. And that’s what partnership working is all about. Coming together to deliver success.

The BID is a success because of partnership working. When we have events, we talk to people to see what needs to be done. This is after we have already spoken with businesses about what they need. The customer service awards are a great example of teamwork. The successful businesses are the ones who work together to deliver good customer service.

We worked with an independent business which looked at each of the participants in order to grade how good their customer service was. And each will get a report as to how they can further improve what they do.

And how great it was to see a number of businesses, more than last year, sat in the auditorium at Mansfield Library to find out who had won gold, silver or bronze awards.

The recent Purple Flag re-accreditation would not have happened without the BID.

With teamwork, we can help continue to make Mansfield town centre the success that it is.
