EDWINSTOWE Business Forum bosses have enlisted the help of an award-winning scheme to boost local trade.

Totally Locally is a campaign created to encourage more people to buy more products in their village shops and turn their backs on the supermarket giants and online shopping which are taking more than their fair share of the market.

“Totally Locally is all about bringing the vibrancy back to the village and highlighting the wealth of wonderful shops and hidden gems right on the doorstep,” says Edwinstowe Business Forum chairman Annette Terry.

It is hoped that if businesses benefit from increased trade it will have a positive impact on the local economy, which in turn will create more jobs, better facilities and make the village a brighter place to live.

Annette added: “Totally Locally really works, and it has had a big impact in the towns of Calderdale, West Yorkshire, and other places it has launched in.

“We are confident that it can do the same for Edwinstowe.

“Over the last two years Totally Locally has changed the shopping habits in these towns considerably, with more residents now enjoying their local shops, the great product range, fantastic knowledge and personal customer service.”

It is claimed that if every adult in Edwinstowe was to spend £5 per week in the independent shops that line the High Street and beyond, it would be worth £1.1m a year.

Annette said: “The village businesses have been suffering like many others over the past few years because of the current economic challenges but already, through adoption of the scheme, traders have been brought together and gained confidence by working as one within the Forum.”

The scheme is set for a big launch day on Saturday 3rd March when Annette will be joined by one of its founders, Chris Sands, and will be manning a stand to highlight the benefits and raise awareness of the scheme to residents.

Annette added: “The launch will embrace the connection of the village to Robin Hood through musical entertainment and characters, including Friar Tuck and Maid Marion.”

“There will also be a themed children’s Treasure Trail taking youngsters throughout the village to collect clues from shops along the way, with each participant receiving a prize.”

“Visitors will also get the chance to sample some of the fantastic products available locally as there will be many goodies on offer.”

“I’m sure this day will be the start of something wonderful for the community of Edwinstowe.”

Totally Locally is available for every town to implement for free and will give help and advice with marketing your area.
