One East Midlands organises launch events for Derbyshire Safer Future Communities network
One East Midlands, the regional infrastructure organisation for the voluntary and community sector (VCS), has organised two launch events in Derby and Derbyshire this September for the Derbyshire Safer Future Communities network.
The free launch events will both place from 10am to 12noon at Community Action Derby on Tuesday 25th September and at the Postmill Centre, South Normanton on Thursday 27th September.
The events are aimed at anyone in the VCS working in the areas of crime, antisocial behaviour, re-offending, substance misuse, violence against women and girls, and youth crime, who want to discover more about how the arrival of the new PCCs in November will affect the current commissioning and funding structure.
Led by CLINKS, the infrastructure charity supporting VCS organisations working with offenders, the SFC programme aims to support frontline VCS organisations in preparation for the arrival of Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) in November 2012, building strong, vibrant and influential VCS networks in each of the police and crime commissioners areas, which are replacing police authorities in England and Wales, to ensure knowledge of local needs is recognised in developing local policing plans.
The new PCCs will be responsible for producing a five year Police and Crime plan setting out local policing priorities, setting the annual police force budget, funding community safety activity to tackle crime and disorder by making grants to organisations that support their objectives.
Alongside other appointed local support and development organisations across the country, One East Midlands is providing the local VCS with the opportunity to advise their new PCCs on wider community engagement, promote the role of the VCS in local community safety activities, demonstrate issues of local need, highlight local priorities and represent the most marginalised and vulnerable individuals in society.

Alongside the network in Derbyshire, One East Midlands is working to establish networks throughout the region in Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire. Voluntary Action Leicestershire (VAL) will establish the network in Leicestershire.
