On stand-by for winter

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE County Council is reassuring residents that it is geared up to cope with winter weather and has more salt stockpiled than ever before - 21,500 tonnes, 12,000 more than Government recommendations.

The move comes in the wake of predictions of an early start to winter with temperatures as low as minus 20C in a matter of weeks.

The County Council has around 21,500 tonnes of salt stockpiled – 12,000 more than official Government recommendations – putting Nottinghamshire in a strong position for dealing with a repeat of last winter’s weather.
