Nottinghamshire County Council issue dangerous dummy warning to parents

Have your say

Trading standards officers from the County Council are warning local parents to be on the lookout for unsafe baby dummies.

They have received complaints about a Nottinghamshire seller who is making and selling the novelty dummies via their Facebook page.

The so called ‘bling dummies’ have diamante and rubber pictures of characters like Superman and Mini Mouse glued on and strings of beads attached.

This cottage industry of decorating dummies is a dangerous new trend and trading standards teams elsewhere have tested similar items and found serious choking risks.

Mark Hughes, trading standards manager at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We have been sent some of the dummies by parents who are rightly concerned about beads and crystals dropping off and choking their babies.

I would urge anyone who has bought this type of dummy to stop using them immediately. We would also like people to contact us if they have examples of similar dummies so we can find out where they are being sold and take action. Please phone Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.”

The County Council is now in contact with the seller concerned.
