No need for politics
I read with interest your report regarding the declared candidates for the upcoming election to the role of Police and Crime Commissioner The one thing that struck me immediately, was that some of the candidates thought it important to state their political affiliations. Why was that I wonder? I would have thought that all the applicants need to have independent and unbiased views, so why would party affiliation need to be declared unless they have a political agenda that they would seek to impose on the appointment? Personally, in the election of a supposedly independent public servant I wouldn’t vote for anyone that thought that their political views would be an advantage to their election. In my view the last thing this position will need is anyone who carries a political bias, because I would have thought that the best applicants will be driven by the needs of the community as a whole, rather than by the constraints of the diktat of a political dogma.
