THE importance of phoning the police about anti-social behaviour and vandalism was stressed by the chairman of Newstead Parish Council at the annual parish meeting.
She was commenting on claims of egg throwing and uprooting of plants on Tilford Road and the village terraces.
Coun Trish Wise said: “The more complaints the police get, the more they are likely to recognise the problem. If nobody reports anything, it will just go on and on.
“The police need to be made aware of what is happening, otherwise we will get nowhere.”
The meeting was also told that the village pub, the Station Hotel, was due to close on 2nd June.
Councillors said this was sad news because they thought the pub, next to the village railway station, had potential as a port of call for hikers, being close to the path leading to Newstead Abbey.
“Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about it,” said Coun Wise.
