A NEW service giving residents a chance to have their say on issues in Edwinstowe has been set up this week.
Edwinstowe Tenants’ & Residents’ Association has been launched by former parish councillor Keith Benison and his wife Gail Benison and aims to enhance community life and encourage village residents to work together.
“There are lots of tenants’ and residents’ groups in Newark and Sherwood but there was not one in Edwinstowe, so we thought we’d set one up,” said Keith.
“We want to get people working together in Edwinstowe for the good of the community and, as a committee, we are willing to do things on a voluntary basis.”
The group will hold one committee meeting and one public meeting each month where residents can raise issues of concern including crime, business, housing, economy as well as discussing upcoming events.
“We are trying to improve things around the village and want to get people working together to boost community spirit like in years gone by,” added Keith.
“A business forum has recently been set up by shopkeepers in Edwinstowe and we’ll be working with them to try and get more shoppers on to the High Street.
“We’re also raising funds so we can buy Christmas lunches for elderly people who may be on their own at Christmas and so far have raised about £330.”
The group is also hoping to organise a street party for The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year and other events could include voluntary work from residents such as a community litter pick.
