Planning permission is being sought to create more than 65 new parking spaces at Mansfield Crematorium to help ease growing congestion by mourners.
The application, submitted by Mansfield District Council is an attempt to ease the problem that is being caused by the number of people attending funeral services at the Derby Road site.
It is also affected by the number of students from nearby West Notts College parking around the area.
The application site, known as Shining Cliff plantation, is in the process of being snapped up by the council’s estates office.
A spokesman for the council said: “A developing trend of increased attendance at funeral services has resulted in existing parking space being at a premium, leading to congestion.
“This is not only on the surfaced areas around the crematorium site, but also the surrounding areas, particularly the A611 ,Derby Road.”
If the plans are given the go-head, the car park will be accessed through the regular entrance to the crematorium, off the A611.
There would be 61 regular spaces, with an additional four disabled spaces.
